Restaurants – Where To Eat – Cartagena

“After a good dinner one can forgive anybody, even one’s own relations.” Oscar Wilde A Woman of No Importance
Eat. Drink. Be happy. Cartagena has a smattering of restaurants to satisfy every budget and palette. Most of the fun finds are clustered within the walled city, but you can still venture out to Bocagrande and other areas to find some interesting options. We’re just listing a few places for each price range that seem to, consistently, be favorites of travelers from Colombia and abroad!

Budget:

La Paletteria: Centro Historico, 03-86 Calle De Ayos, Cartagena, Colombia
Cool down! Popsicles abound in every tropical and traditional flavor you can imagine. Ideal for Cartagena’s heat and respite from it.

La Mulata: Calle Quero 9 58, Cartagena, Colombia
You can’t get much cheaper than this. In fact, you probably can’t get any cheaper than this. This popular
breakfast/brunch/lunch stop is even less expensive than many of the street stalls. It has set lunch menus with fresh juices and lots of options. Phenomenal choice for budget travelers. And it has great food.

Juice stalls: In the Pegasus Docks, fruit stands that offer enormous glasses of fresh juice abound. Don’t miss out on an opportunity to try strange, exotic flavors like tamarind, zapote and borojo!

Mid-range:

Café Lunatico (Lunatic café): Calle de la Media Luna, Getsemani No 10-81, Cartagena, Colombia +57 320 3830419
Who says inexpensive has to be boring? Ranging in price from COP 8,000 – 22, 000, it has a great selection of tapas, Colombian food, gastropub and fusion. And great breakfasts.

La Placita Burger Bar: Bocagrande, Calle 8 # 2 – 50, Cartagena 13001, Colombia
Sometimes, you just want a good burger. And for the size served, these are easily shared making it an even more economical option. It’s a popular lunch and late-night stop.

Saint Roque Restaurante Café: Getsemani, Calle Espiritu Santo 29-214, Cartagena, Colombia
+57 317 2268039
This mid to high end option tucked in Cartagena’s center offers great fresh meals, vegetarian dishes and a friendly staff. The owner and head chef often caters to the guests personally. All tips are donated to a foundation that serves underprivileged children. Worth it!

High end:

El Boliche Cebicheria: Centro Historico, San Diego, Calle Cochera del Hobo No.38-17, Cartagena, Colombia
+57 310 3687908
This restaurant consistently tops Cartagena’s “best of” charts … from pretty much every travel guide, restaurant guide, food lover’s guide and more. And for good reason. So make reservations or be prepared for a long wait to experience one of Cartagena’s top restaurants that makes Cebiche an art form!

La Vitriola: Calle Balocco No 2-01 El Centro
When in the Caribbean, eat seafood! This 400-year-old Colonial home has been converted into one of Cartagena’s most loved and recommended seafood restaurants. Ambiance, flavor, great wine and music, this is a hit.
Carmen Restaurant Cartagena: Calle del Cuartel #36-77, Cartagena 12345, Colombia
+(57)(5) 660.6795

Romance and Cartagena are synonymous, and this restaurant pulls out all the stops. Modern, cozy, outdoor seating, and a menu of creative, Asian-inspired dishes is surprising and diverse. Fresh, delicious, and bi-lingual (all the menus are in English and Spanish), it’s definitely a dining experience worth having in Cartagena.
