Cartagena tends to be a little quieter during the week compared to other Colombian cities, so if you want a taste of a great night out, make sure you hit Cartagena during a weekend. And don’t arrive too early to the clubs because you’ll probably end up setting up the bar with the staff instead of actually getting a taste of the vibrant nightlife that comes alive after midnight.
Most of the more interesting and clubs and bars are located in the walled city, so it’s fun to do a pub/club crawl to get a taste of as many places as possible! And if that’s not enough, get on a party chiva and tour around the city on a noisy bus with other party-goers and musicians.
Donde Fidel: El Portal de los Dulces, # 32-09 between dos coches plaza and aduana plaza.
Salsa dancing and inexpensive beer … need we say more?
Café Havana: on the corner of the Calle de la Media Luna and Calle del Guerrero.
A popular place to really dance salsa. Donde Fidel is just a warm up compared to the dancing that goes on here. It has a great beer selection. Entrance is pricey (COP 10,000), as are the drinks, but worth it for the ambiance.
Mister Babilla: Calle Artesanal in Getsemani
Perhaps the good price of alcohol (a beer costs around COP $6.000) helps liven the place up because it’s not uncommon to see people dancing on the tables. Popular with both backpackers and locals, it’s a great club that really comes to life after midnight.
Bazurto Social Club: Getsemaní, Av. del Centenario, Cra 9 #30-42
Start with dinner and stick around. This is a popular place for locals. Though it’s a bit pricier, it’s a more authentic experience sharing with the people from Cartagena with Caribbean music – calypso and champeta – mixed with funk and modern sounds
