As with the rest of the country, Cartagena is predominantly Catholic. It’s a popular pilgrimage destination during the festival of Nuestra Senora de la Candelaria (Our Lady of the Candelaria) between January 24 and February 2.

The procession on February 2 begins at 3:00 pm in which parishioners guard the image of the Virgin, ending in la Popa. There, believers pray to the Virgin for health and guidance for their economic problems.
