Getting Around

Travel Getting Around Transportation – Cartagena

These boots were made for walking … The best way to discover Cartagena is by foot, without a doubt. It gives everything a less maddening pace, and there are so many surprises on every street.

Pedal Cartagena: Many hotels and bike rental shops have bike rentals for as little as $15.000 pesos/day. Just make sure you’ve honed your reflexes!

Taxis: Taxis are reasonably priced in Cartagena (after a long day walking when you just need to not walk). And it’s a good way to get around Cartagena’s more metropolitan area. It’s always safer to call a taxi service, though hailing them on the street is an option.

Moto Taxis: For the adventurous, get toted around in a cart while a motorcyclist veers around the old town. (Not necessarily the safest option, though quite popular and cheap).

Horse-Drawn Carriage: The horse-drawn carriage rides have been a hallmark activity in Cartagena. In spring of 2014, they were suspended for a few months because the animals were kept in such dire conditions. Now, they’re back and running with strict regulations to insure the animal’s safety. An evening horse-drawn carriage ride is magical.

Public Transportation (Trans Caribe): City buses are everywhere. And you don’t even have to walk to a stop. Just hail your bus, get on, and go. Just let the driver know when you want to get off.

Boat: You’ll need to catch one of the many boat taxis at the Pegasus Docks to get to the Rosario Islands or Baru
